Ok, so I was extremely surprised that the eggs different have an odor or much taste.

Just like childhood preserved duck eggs purchased in Chinatown.

Lol from what I’ve seen. buying this without the slightest clue what it is and the flavor palate of a toddler. It’s not bad get the weird color out ur head lol. Also it’s so many ways to enjoy a century egg from simple and basic to a little complex.

Exactly what I expected

This is one of those foodie things that has no substitute. Yes, it can be interchanged sometimes with a salted duck egg, or even a simple hard-cooked chicken egg, but neither of those has the silky, creamy texture of a preserved egg. Slice one into ramen, or chop into congee—mmm. I even saw a tip that the best way to make congee is to hand-squish a preserved egg into the soaked rice before cooking. Definitely going to try that, but even just adding at serving makes a special dish out of a humble one. BTW, they come shell-on but peel easily, look beautiful, and keep well in the fridge. Worth the price to have handy.
